Use This Low Carb Diet Plan for a Healthier Lifestyle
A lot of health enthusiasts are raising flags on carbohydrates. In fact, several mainstream low carb diet plans have sprouted everywhere. Most low carb weight loss diet plans have one goal: no to carbohydrates. But the question is, are all carbohydrates bad?
The amount of carbohydrates you can stand depends on your body. There are people who react poorly to carbs. Some develop allergies, while others gain weight. On the other side of the coin, carbohydrates are good as they give you energy throughout the day. However, there are also some carbs that you should avoid at all costs, especially when losing weight. Below is a quick guide of what to eat and what not to eat.
What is a Low Carb Diet?
Low Carb Diet is a diet meal plan that limits carbohydrate consumption from foods, like rice, pasta, sweets, and bread. Low carb diet is high in fat, protein, and vegetables. It encourages the consumption of natural fat found in olive oil and butter. Studies show that going low carb results to weight loss and improves health.
This is how your low carb diet looks like
Red Meat. Beef, buffalo, deer, lamb (Grass-fed are the best.)
Poultry. Chicken, pork, turkey, goose
Vegetables. Vegetables that grow above the ground are low in carbohydrates and are highly recommended. Some examples are as follows: cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, avocado, broccoli, and asparagus.
Vegetables that grow below the ground are higher in carbohydrates and should be eaten moderately. Several examples are potato, beetroot, carrot, sweet potato, parsnip, and rutabaga.
Fruits. Fruits are candies from nature. Most are low carbs, but some can be very sweet and high in sugar. However, they still are better choices compared to processed candies and gummy bears. The solution? Go for low carb fruits, like cantaloupe, coconut (meat), watermelon, lemon, plum, peach, clementine, and cherries.
Eggs. Choose pastured, cage-free, and omega-3-enriched eggs.
Nuts. Just like carbohydrates, not all nuts are good for you. The best kinds of nuts are pecan, macadamia, and brazil nut. Hazelnut, walnut, and peanut should be eaten moderately. Cashew nuts are known to contain lots of carbs and are considered to be the worst option there is.
Dairy. Choose full-fat options like Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, butter, cream cheese, and sour cream.
Fats and Oils. Oils and fats can be mixed in salads and other meals. Avocado oil, almond oil, coconut oil, and butter are saturated fats and can easily be tolerated by most individuals. Other examples of low-carb oils are macadamia oil, organic red palm oil, sesame oil, and flaxseed oil.
What not to eat on a low carb diet
Sugar. These are drinks and snacks that are packed with tons of sugar, like fruit juices, candies, ice cream, soft drinks, and milk chocolates.
Trans Fats. If it looks like it has been manufactured in a factory, avoid it. Most of these foods are packed with high amounts of carbs. Some examples are canned goods, canned vegetables, frozen meals, cookies, and cakes.
Refined Processed Carbohydrates. Eating too much refined processed carbohydrates is the main reason for weight gain. A good diet starts with avoiding all these “bad boys,” and replacing them with low carb meals. Some examples are muffins, pastries, pastas, bread, doughnuts, bagels, and pizza.
It is easier to eat healthy when you prepare your own meals and are wary of the ingredients that you are consuming. However, there will be times when you dine out during special occasions. You can still follow the low carb diet by asking the waiter to replace a bowl of fries with a plate of salad. You can also order a fish or meat-based dishes, and ask the chef to cook it in real butter. For your drinks, go for unsweetened beverages, or dry wine. Spirits like whiskey, brandy, martini, and tequila are also safe options when on a diet.
